Introduction to PCR
This laboratory invites students to take a closer look at the components of PCR. Rather than using pre-made master and primer mixes, students are responsible for adding each component into their PCR reactions.
Students get to amplify Bacteriophage Lambda DNA. This is the best PCR module for introducing the concept that PCR is essentially DNA replication in a test tube and to investigate the molecular basis of DNA replication.
Advanced: Although this lesson is an introduction to PCR, it requires careful pipetting and following of procedures. It is appropriate for any biology or biotechnology course that emphasize bioscience laboratory skills.
