Curricula
Day 1: What is Biotechnology?
In this one day lesson, students explore the question, ‘What is Biotechnology?’.
They begin by viewing images of extraordinary products, such as glow-in-the-dark fish, and discuss with peers whether they think these are real. Next, they consider an example of medical biotechnology they have likely already heard of – insulin used to treat individuals with diabetes. Finally, students engage in a group activity to brainstorm what ‘biotechnology’ is using their own images and words. These introductory resources are best used with students that are new to biotechnology and are a great way to introduce any BABEC lab.
