High School Pathways Co-Op
What is the difference between the High School Pathways Hub and Co-Op?
Where the High School Pathways Hub can be seen as a birds-eye view of the goals to enhance biotechnology technician education and engage underserved populations to address workforce needs and drive innovation in the biotechnology field. The High School Co-Op focuses more on the day-to-day operational aspect of these goals.
The Co-Op program aims to enhance student engagement by facilitating deeper interactions with both high school (HS) teachers and college infrastructure, particularly counselors and Career and Technical Education (CTE) administrators. By fostering this connection, the program seeks to build awareness of opportunities available through dual enrollment at the community college (CC) level, thereby bridging the gap between HS and CC and providing students with clear educational pathways.
Additionally, the program explores the effectiveness of providing work-based learning experiences in biotechnology during the summer to keep HS students engaged. This includes career-focused activities such as company visits and career exploration during the co-op experience. As part of the Co-Op program, HS students engage in a woven bioscope project to further enrich their learning experience.
Furthermore, the program aims to deepen the hub of experience by having students participate directly at the college, offering them a firsthand understanding of the college environment.
